HowAL Bsharah aka Al Bsharah
It’s my pleasure to introduce HowAL Bsharah!!
(Human name Al Bsharah)
He’s so heavily involved in AI lately that his name literally says it!! Well, that’s kind of a font issue, but I’m not pushing back.
Many of us know HowAL from Interlock Capital, his partnership with super coyote Neal Bloom.
Get this, way back in the day, Al was helping to mentor Neal’s startup at EvoNexus! Do you remember when Evo was the center of the tech ecosystem in downtown San Diego?
Back then, there was one main spot, North County wasn’t as hot yet, and Evo was where you went to mingle with founders. I keep hearing rumblings of bringing back a hub like this. Could be cool!
Anyways, at that time Al (not ai) was working on an Email Marketing tool called Email Copilot. It provided dynamic visualization, monitoring, reporting, and analysis of email deliverability data. They eventually sold to Return Path.
If I remember correctly, the company actually sold twice in two parts, and the other piece to Seismic, which is an icon in San Diego. Leading our coyote Al to a few years as a VP of Product.
You can take the entrepreneur out of the startup through acquisition, but you can never take the founder out of the... or however the phrase goes.
One thing I respect is how open and direct he is. Check this out:
“[Aholics.com] was my first startup, and first failure. Built some cool tech, took on too much, didn't know what I was doing, made a lot of mistakes!”
The URL now redirects to a Detroit Lions fan page! Fitting if you know his passion for his team, which has finally turned a corner and is actually really fun to watch! Lions can be friends with coyotes.
You can tell he cares for the Startup community by his devotion to organizations like Techstars, Founders Institute, and a time on the StartupSD board, while also investing locally here in SD.
You might not know this but Al is an avid adventurer and takes his RV all over the country looking for coyotes in National Parks. Hence the clone.
Thank you for all you do for our startup community, Al, and for continuing to support founders and builders through mentorship, capital, and most importantly, your time.
HowAL yeah!
