Howlex Waters aka Alex Waters
We’ve gotta let out a mighty ahwoo for our friend Howlex Waters (aka Alex Waters)!
He’s more connected than a Balboa Park canyon coyote at dusk, while also not spending a ton of time in the public eye. Teach us, Alex!
Actually, he’s already shared the answer, and it’s quite simple. He's a giver; he shares his time, volunteers at events, and offers business strategy and advice to founders in need of support. Oh, and the best part? He's direct.
You most likely know him as the former Director of the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, but what about:
- Leadership Instructor at University of San Diego, coaching up-and-coming entrepreneurs
- Connect? Did you know Connect All was part of Connect at one point?
- Lean Innovation Coach at Moves The Needle
- Program Director at Downtown San Diego Partnership
Fun fact: he went through the altMBA program after arriving in San Diego from DC, and then ended up teaching there for years. The ROI there alone was insane.
I’ve actually given him a hard time about not taking all his business savvy and building something cash flowing of his own, given he has all the skills. But that’s not the point; his answer: “I'd rather help other people.”
Howl f’ing yeah!
The most important lesson I’ve learned from him is to “be real.” You don’t have to be liked by everyone, and you don’t have to please everyone. In fact, that’s really not important, but owning who you are and what you stand for—that’s what matters.
Don’t pretend to be something you’re not; be who you are and be real.
Alex, we’re thrilled to hear that you’ve already set new things in motion with The Program Labs. An organization working with charities and companies to design and implement social impact programs.
We’re excited to watch you build.
Howl yeah!
